Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information BestPurrPicks.com (“BestPurrPicks”, “we”, “us”) collects when you visit our website, how we use it and the choices you have. The short version: we do not ask you to create an account, we do not sell your personal information, and we only use analytics to understand which articles are helpful.
1. Who We Are
BestPurrPicks.com is an independent website that publishes guides and recommendations about cat products. You can reach us about anything in this policy at contact@bestpurrpicks.com.
2. Information We Collect
Information you choose to share
- Emails you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it and the content of your message.
- Comments. If you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and website (optional) you enter, the comment itself, your IP address and browser information to help detect spam. Your email address is never shown publicly. WordPress may create an anonymized string from your email address to check whether you use the Gravatar service, which shows a profile picture next to comments. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data through Google Analytics 4. We use Google Analytics 4 to see how visitors use the site, for example which pages are read, how long visits last, the type of device and browser, and the general region a visit comes from. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We use this information only in aggregate, to improve our content. We do not use it to identify individual visitors, and we do not combine it with any other information about you.
- Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting server automatically records basic technical information such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, for security and to keep the site running.
3. How We Use Information
- To run, maintain and secure the website
- To reply to your emails
- To publish and moderate comments
- To understand which articles are useful so we can improve them
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information, we do not rent it and we do not use it to send you marketing you did not ask for.
4. Cookies
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. Our site uses:
- Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics 4, which help us count visits and understand how pages are used.
- Comment cookies. If you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name and email in a cookie so you do not have to type them again. These last for one year.
- Affiliate cookies. When you click a link to a retailer such as Amazon, that retailer may place its own cookie in your browser to record that you came from our site. This is how we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases. These cookies are set and controlled by the retailer under its own privacy policy, not by us.
You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. You can also opt out of Google Analytics on all websites with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. Third-Party Services
These trusted services help us run the site. Each handles data under its own privacy policy:
- Hosting: Hawk Host
- Analytics: Google Analytics 4 (Google Privacy Policy)
- Affiliate program: Amazon Services LLC Associates Program (Amazon Privacy Notice)
- Comment avatars: Gravatar by Automattic
6. Embedded Content From Other Websites
Some articles may include embedded content such as videos. Embedded content behaves as if you visited the other website directly, and that website may collect data about you, use cookies and track your interaction with the embedded content.
7. How Long We Keep Information
- Emails: kept as long as needed to reply and follow up, and no longer than 24 months.
- Comments: kept for as long as the comment is published, together with the details you entered.
- Analytics data: kept according to the retention setting in Google Analytics, after which it is deleted automatically.
8. Your Privacy Rights
US residents
Depending on where you live, including California under the CCPA and CPRA, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information. Some state laws may treat third-party analytics or affiliate cookies as “sharing.” You can opt out of these at any time by blocking cookies or using the Google Analytics opt-out described above. We will never treat you differently for exercising your rights.
Visitors from the EU, UK and similar regions
You may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to how we use it and to receive a copy of it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
To make any request, email contact@bestpurrpicks.com. We may need to confirm your identity first and will respond within the time required by law.
9. Children’s Privacy
This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
Our site uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Links to Other Websites
Our articles link to other websites, including retailers. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies before sharing information with them.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed.
